2013 iGEM team networks with UCSF iGEM alumni

January 3, 2014

On January 3rd, iGEM team members, alumni, and families gathered to celebrate the 2013 iGEM teams gold medal performance. The team presented their main research findings from the summer to their families and alumni who were present.

The UCSF iGEM team has produced over 50 alumni in the last 7 years, and these students -- who have overwhelmingly stayed in science -- are at various stages of their undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate careers. In an effort to maintaing this network, we have started a resource group for these students to provide them with career development, mentorship, and job opportunities. We regularly disseminate information on summer internship and research opportunities via email, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Additionally, we provide alumni with guidance and advice in developing their resume and cover letters when applying for these positions. The students also serve as a resource to one another, and the annual gathering of iGEM alumni every January helps facilitate the networking opportunities.

Congratulations again to the 2013 iGEM team on a very successful year!
