Lei Stanley Qi receives NIH Director's Early Independence Award

October 1, 2013

Systems Biology Fellow Lei Stanley Qi was one of only 15 recipients of the prestigious 2013 NIH Director's Early Independence Awards.

The NIH Common Fund established these awards in 2011 as a mechanism for exceptional early career scientists to move rapidly into independent research positions by essentially omitting the traditional post-doctoral training period. As part of the NIH promotion of 'High-Risk, High-Reward' research, Stanley will join other Center investigators Zev Gartner (2013 New Innovator Awardee), Leor Weinberger (2013 Pioneer Awardee), and Matt Thomson (2012 Early Independence Awardee) at a NIH symposium in November, as well as UCSF Sandler Fellow David Weinberg, another recipient of the 2013 Early Independence Award.
