Membrane and protein homeostasis cross paths

In new work published in Molecular Cell, Center investigator Nevan Krogan and colleagues present an E-MAP focused on S. cerevisiae genes involved in lipid metabolism.

Combined with quantitative lipidomics, the authors uncover a link between protein degradation and fatty acid desaturation involving the ERAD component Ubx2p. The results implicate the existence of dedicated lipid stress responses in maintaining membrane homeostasis.
