Engaging the general public with science…and legos

The UCSF Center for Systems and Synthetic Biology and SynBERC participated in the first Bay Area Science Festival Discovery Days at AT&T Park on November 6th.  Volunteers from both Centers explained some basic concepts of synthetic biology to the masses attending the event. The theme of our booth was *Making Biology Easier to Engineer*. Lego parts assembled into different types of cars were used as demos, making the analogy to biological parts, that when assembled in different ways, can also achieve different biological outcomes or applications.
